Raising iron levels with food/diet

I have been donating platelets for several years. They check the iron level in your blood before each donation. I have not been allowed to donate twice in the last two weeks due to low iron levels.
I could take an iron supplement, but I would rather try to correct this with whole food. What foods should I eat to raise my iron levels? I have been told to eat Cream of Wheat and dried fruits.
