My best tip is be selective about the tips you receive... if it sounds over complicated.. it probably is and likely unnecessary.
Eat to your calorie goal. Only calories matter for weight loss.
Log accurately (food scale is the best way)
And eat the foods that help you stick to your goal, be it carbs, fats, proteins, even treats.
