I don't know about some of you but I've noticed one thing through out my yo-yoing of trying to keep my weight low... And failing miserably. It's all down to how I think about food.
See I have this obsession, I love all food, salads, fruit, sweets, chocolate and worse one of all... Ice cream!
At the age of 18 I had eaten so many tubs if ice creams, drank lots if milkshake it had resulted in my receiving gallbladder attacks due to gall stones! A build up of calcium the doctor said and as the stone was too big I had to have surgery to have it removed.
But I've been thinking, and I don't know if this is just me, it's not just about the smells of food, or even what it tastes like, but as soon as someone mentions or eats something I have that food stuck in my head for hours and hours until I have to give in and get some myself. It doesn't stop there. I can't eat a little bit, or one piece I have to eat the whole lot! I can't keep blaming it in my mums 'finish all that's on your plate' mantra!
Anyone else get like this? I realise how abnormal this is... But the doctor just laughs at me when I explain it! Helpful huh

I think eating becomes an obsession when we are not getting enough of the nutrients we need and not basing diet on whole, natural foods. I've resolved all health problems including binge eating disorder, bipolar disorder, extreme anxiety and a long list of physical problems by just changing WHAT I eat. I do not obsess about food at all anymore, but I enjoy what I eat immensely. I just don't need to over-eat now that my body is getting all the nutrition it needs. Sounds too simple to be true, but there are many people who share my experience. But everyone else can keep counting calories and fighting cravings with "willpower" if that's what works for them.0

I don't know what to tell you. I am exactly the same (if I start eating sth good, I have to have the whole thing, I can't stop; I easily obsess over food) but I'm recovering from a life of ED. I'd say go talk to another doctor, maybe?
Good luck, sorry I can't be more helpful

Yeah - if a doctor can't prescribe a pill for it...
I think when you're trying to lose weight it's more of a mental game than just eating less and moving more. I've discovered that it doesn't work for me to try and stop bad habits (including habitual thinking!). It works better to develop a new way of thinking - whether that be to distract yourself so you don't eat, substituting healthier food for the calorie dense food, etc. But it's also how you talk to yourself - are you as supportive as you'd want a friend to be? What do you need to hear?
And perhaps it would be worthwhile to talk to someone about your relationship with food?0 -

Your gallstones didn't necessarily form because you ate too much ice cream. I rarely ate any kind of dairy when I was younger and I had my gallbladder removed at 21.0
