I'm so so lost I'm gaining weight terribly I just need encouragement that if I just follow the calories on MFP gives me is it possible to lose alot of weight??

For me the best weight loss is slow and steady. Using the daily calorie count given by MFP is a great place to start. Also consider buying a food scale to help track calories, for lots it's a big help.
If you keep the focus you will lose weight, it's just going to take time.
I always tell myself it took years and a pregnancy to gain the weight, it's not going to come off in a couple months.
