Put your stats into My Fitness Pal and it will give you the number of calories to eat. Your calorie goal to lose weight - or to maintain weight, or to gain weight. Whatever you put in for your goal.
When you log food it will give you the macro counts for that food item, the # of grams of protein, grams of fat, or grams of carbs. Carbohydrates provide 4 calories per gram, protein provides 4 calories per gram, and fat provides 9 calories per gram.
Example - if your calorie goal is 1,500 and protein macro goal is 25%, then your goal is 375 calories from protein (.25x1500). 375/4 = 93.75 = grams of protein.
You can change your macro percentages based on personal preferences or medical conditions. Weight loss, maintenance, or gain is about calories. Satiety, health and fitness goals are about macros. Try the macros My Fitness Pal gives you, then tweak over time if you are hungry.2
