Calories are what determine if you lose weight or not, you need to eat less calories than you burn.
Eating low carb is one of the ways you can eat when in a calorie deficit. People usually see a faster weight loss in the beginning of doing low carb, but it's mostly water weight, not actual fat loss.
I don't eat low carb or pay any attention to my carbs at all. I eat the foods I like in quantities that are appropriate for my calorie goal, and I've lost over 30lbs this way without feeling deprived.
You need to find what works for you, what kind of way of eating makes you feel satiated. Some people enjoy low carb, other find carbs make them feel more satiated, etc. It's trial and error.
I would advise against making any changes you don't want to follow the rest of your life. Making changes you can only 'tolerate' to achieve weight loss is setting yourself up for failure. Either you'll give up before reaching your goal because you don't like your diet, it's too unsatisfying and/or restrictive. Or you might reach your goal, go back to eating the way you did before and gain all the weight back again because you didn't make any long term changes to your diet.5 -

If your goal is weight loss, that is created by a calorie deficit. Some people find that limiting carbohydrates makes it easier for them to consistently hit their calorie goal. But their weight loss is still created by a calorie deficit.3
