Is it possible to gain 5 pounds in a weekend? I was 129 on Thursday and this morning Iβm 134. I 100% overate over the weekend between Easter candy, dinner and deserts. But 5 whole pounds?! π©π©π©

Water retention. Excess carbs and sodium and food can hold onto a ton of water, sometimes I've even gained 10lbs in water weight... it will be gone by next week10

Yep. 5 whole pounds of water retention, which is very common when you eat extra carbs since they hold water like whoah. Give it a few days, drink a little extra water, and it'll be gone nearly as fast as it showed up.
Your weight is made up of all of you, not just your fat. Fluctuations up to 10 pounds due to water, poop, glycogen and whatever else are very normal. Try to keep in mind that weight loss, as in the number on the scale, is not actually as important as fat loss, which can be a bit tricky to see on a scale.8 -
To gain a lb of fat you need to eat 3,500 Calories over and above your maintenance Calories.
Your maintenance, not your weight loss target, Calories.
That would be a lot of Easter candy or a flabbergasting amount of ham!
So yes, you can gain 5 lbs overnight, because you've done it; but, it isn't 5 lbs of fat --and it will never be mostly fat whenever your weight fluctuates so much so fast.
Over the next few days most of the five lbs will fluctuate away.4 -
Ask yourself 5lbs of what.....
Clearly you know it's not 5lbs of fat unless you ate c. 17,500 above your maintenance calories.4 -

I doubt that
May be water weight or food weight2 -
Ok thanks everyone! I feel a lot better lol! I normally do a lower carb diet and I definitely ate a ton of carbs this weekend. So the extra water weight definitely makes sense! But itβs Monday and Iβm back on track πͺπ½5
