Diabetes & Fasting?!

I am very interested in doing intermittent fasting but I want to know how that would work when I am taking medication for diabetes? I'd like to have my first meal at 2pm 5x a week & stop eating at 8pm. Can anyone give me any tips or tricks? This is seriously where I am thinking about going.. It will be a slow start but I am starting to research my medications to see which I need ot eat with food and go from there. Thanks guys. Oh, I am a type 2 diabetic who takes insulin at night only.

I would ask your doctor what they think.

That's true. Mine is very good at brushing me off, after going through my medications there is one I need to take twice a day that clearly states to take it with food. So IF is off the table, I am doing my own research so I am more knowledgable.

I read the title and immediately did one of these: 🤪 Then I clicked and my expression mellowed slightly to one of these: 😬

Glad others have already suggested you check in with your healthcare team. I'd imagine IF is not impossible to do for diabetics but would definitely need guidance based on activity level, medical history, which medication class your current prescription falls under, etc

Yet there may be other eating regimes and scheduling for you to consider as well after having had that discussion

I agree with others to check with your doctor. In my case I didn't eat breakfast but an early lunch and would wake up slightly hypoglycemic. I tried skipping dinner instead and was lower, possibly because of working out before I'd normally eat dinner. I've since started having a protein drink when I wake up and my blood sugar is more stable now. I'm not currently on meds anymore and about 80 when I get up and 68-75 throughout the day.
