Runner, vegan and back on MFP after a few years away..

Hi All,

It's been a while since I used MFP, prior to this stint of logging for 13 days I have not been around since 2015 - it is good to be back!

I enjoy running, having run in quite a few marathons and have been vegan for around 3 years now - hopefully not the only one on here. Since going vegan, eating mostly wholefoods, I've notice a lot of benefits to recovery time and ran my fastest marathon in 2hrs 59mins. Since the birth of my 2nd child, running had taken a back seat and I had a slight injury that was persistent. Due to this inactivity I gained a bit of weight and lost shape.

Over the last few weeks I've really picked it up again, doing strength work and eating well with the help of MFP, I'm hoping to get back out running in a few weeks, once I'm confident my niggles are behind me.

Would be great to hear from others who have had similar (or not so similar) experiences to mine :)

Hello! I am also a vegan marathoner, but not nearly as fast as you. :)

How have you found being vegan and recovery from running? Or were you vegan before you ran? I think we all have our own goals, for my sub 3, I spent years trying to get it and not quite making it, but I believe going plant-based made a massive difference to my training and that was huge for me finally getting there :)

I WAS a vegan marathoner momma. I eat plant-based and jog the occasional 5K now. The kids are still there though 🤣

Are you training for a 2021 event or just going for distance/pacing?

I was vegan first and then got into running (been vegan for about thirteen years, been running seriously for about five). I have no issues with running recovery. From what I can gather from conversation with other (non-vegan) runners, my recovery time doesn't appear to suffer. I typically run seven days a week and complete 2-3 marathons and at least half a dozen shorter races per year. I'm glad to hear that going plant-based made a difference for your training -- I feel like veganism/plant-based seems to be an increasingly popular lifestyle among runners.

I'm just hoping to get back to regular running again, then I'll see where it takes me from there. Hopefully a marathon in 2021.

Just rejoined today - hoping to hone my diet in and finally get that BQ.... I'm definitely not a sub 3 - going for <3:30. Would love to know what your daily diet is like!
