Hi , I have just joined MyFitnessPal.is there a barcode scanner on products/food on my fitness pal app that will automatically give you the nutrition info or do I download a different app

    I think it is a feature on the paid for service MFP offers

    And just in case I misunderstood your question, yes there is a bar code scanner that deducts your calories and basic information. Just go to your diary add food and scanner should be top right by the search function 😉

    However, you still need to check that the calories are correct as most entries in the database are user-entered and might be wrong. Plus, if you scan a pack of salad you might still get chocolate, or the other way around.

    The barcode scanner facility just carries out a search of the database the same as a text search might do, it's really no more accurate.

    It's available in the free MFP version, but only in the phone/tablet app, not the desktop/laptop browser version.

    Like tinkerbellang83 said, though, it's still just crowd-sourced data, so it can be inaccurate, no different from typed-in lookup.
