    Totally arbitrary. When logging, your best bet is to weigh the grapefruit before eating, weigh what is left over and subtract. log that weight. I prefer grams

    Thats what I do. Put the grapefruit in a bowl or on a plate. Eat it, putting seeds and rind in bowl or on plate. Weigh bowl or plate again. Subtract difference.
    If I buy a bad of apples, oranges, etc. all about the same size, I only weigh the first one.
    Of course potatoes and onions are completely different size, even in the same bag, so I weigh each one.

    I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and I got tired really quickly of having to guess what was "small," "medium," or "large." A food scale freed up so much mental energy!
