Negative Calorie Adjustments - So inconsistent!

I kinda get the negative calorie adjustment logic explained in another post in this Message Board. What I don't get is why some days I wake up to a negative adjustment or see a negative adjustment by 9 a.m., and other days that are nearly identical in movement, it stays at +/- 0 until 5 or 6 p.m. at which time I'm all of a sudden hit with adjustments (negative on a rest day, huge positive on an exercise day). Is there a reason why the timing is so different from day to day? Appreciate any insight available.

Have you checked the hour of the latest sync on those days when you don't have an adjustment until late in the day? I think there is just a syncing delay sometimes.
When you tap on the calorie adjustment, you should see at what hour MFP and your device synced.
For example, this is my screenshot at 9AM, but the last sync apparently dates from a few minutes after midnight:
