You burn calories 24/7, even if you were in a vegetative state. You burn a crap ton of calories merely being alive. You burn calories eating because digestion requires energy...but keep in mind, most of this stuff is already rolled up into your calorie goal. The only thing that isn't is deliberate exercise or activity beyond what you've selected as your activity level. For example, you calorie target at sedentary is already going to include calories required for eating, sitting around playing video games, and bathing, etc and will include up to around 3,000 steps...that's already rolled up into your calorie target.7 -
What a shame the running and cycling estimates especialy are comically exaggerated.
Would guess the rest of the estimates are too.
Quite possibly the most useless video about calorie burns I've ever seen.3 -
The average, everyday person's BMR is around 2,000, so you get 83 calories an hour for just ... being on the planet.
Which was disappointing, because this video taught me that you only get 80 calories an hour for having sex, so in theory the more sex you have, the heavier you will get.
But fortunately, you can lose that excess weight by slow-waltzing with your partner for 112 calories. Just don't let that dancing lead to the bedroom or you'll give back the gains.7 -

Agree.
I really hate to see stuff tagged by Harvard or some other "authority" that talks about burning calories by playing video game, eating, etc. Of course one does. Problem is most of the population has not idea how many calories they consume or burn, but know burning calories is "good". Seeing things like video games, eating, taking a bath etc on such a list is like a free pass to a sedentary lifestyle.2 -
I guess most of us don’t need Harvard to tell us we burn calories just being alive. The alternative is a moot point.0
