Red onion

I was told that red onion left over in the fridge is toxic. I want to add it to my sandwiches but I am worried about how to store it in the fridge. And how long to kerp it in the fridge.

You were told...by whom? 🤔 And based on which food science? 🧐
Anecdotally, I buy red onion exclusively (often 3+ at a time) and this for over a decade or more. The "last onion" can be in my fridge's veggie compartment for up to 2 weeks.
Unless my neurological condition (extremis snarkikus) can be directly attributed to red onion, I think we're going to be fine.12 -
ditto. I often pre-chop a few onions (red or vidalia) and store in the fridge in mason jars or a baggie for a few days to probably about 2 weeks.6

That’s what´s wrong with me. I will blame my dad. Sorry dad. RIP.1

There's some legitimate science above, but here to add that I've been eating a chopped raw onion over multiple days since *forever* and I've never been sick from it.4
