2 Day Hunger Delay - Post Race

I recently ran my first ultramarathon, where I burned about 3,000 net calories but consumed only 600 or so additional on top of maintenance.

Does anybody understand or can explain why the extreme hunger hasn’t set in until 2 days later? I’ve already experienced the bloat from too much sodium and water consumption and am starting to defloat but I think all that extra water took up room from the glorious food I missed out on!

I am less hungry on exercise days than none exercise days some people find exercise a appetite surpressant + being bloated will make you feel less hungry

Marathoner here. Long runs suppress my appetite to the point that I now just plan to eat more the 1-2 days following a long run. Why does it happen? I have no idea. I just know that this is something that I experience too. My hypothesis is that the digestion slowdown that happens during a longer run impacts my appetite for the rest of the day and my system needs time to catch up and "understand" that I actually need some calories.
