Garmin Fenix watch - routing ??

Garmin has two methods of routing / turn by turn navigation. You plan a route ahead of time, and if you deviate from it:
  • You're on your own to find your way back, then it will continue navigating for you.
  • It will use its map to guide you back to the route.

By default, the watch does the first one. It has maps and can auto-generate routes. I'd like to switch it to the second, but haven't found it in the menu. Anybody know how?

    That seems to imply there’s a setting within the activity wherein you can select “use map” to get routed back? I have not tried it and I have the 5S plus (not 5x or 6 anything) so I’m not sure what difference it would make even if I did. I don’t know if that’s something you’ve tried already but if not, maybe?

    @Duck_Puddle

    This looks like exactly what I need. Thank you so much!!

    I moved across town, now I can ride north to the southern tip of loops I used to ride, and only partly know my way around. Now that I changed this, it means I can change my plans in the middle of a ride based on how I'm feeling and if anything perks my curiosity, and know I won't wind up lost in a maze of dead ends.

    Not sure why this is even a setting, but I'm so glad to have this working. Or hopefully so, I'll find out tomorrow.

    😁😁😁
