The Perfect Storm

Normally you make a conscious decision to lose weight. That's what I have always done.
This time was different. When last Christmas was over I had all this food remaining. It was considerable! The only thing I could think of was take it to work. That was the start of good things. As it turned out I ate my lunch for breakfast which for me worked out better than I ever imagined. That little step allowed me to feel more energized for the rest of the day. Plus no more burger biggies or giant subs and chips.
What of lunch you say. For lunch I started eating Halos and bananas. It was a perfect boost for the afternoon. I felt less sleepy. Now I did visit the vending machine for some mini Oreos. I figured that wasn't too bad and again the boost. That came to an abrupt end!
Next came Lent. What to give up for Lent? I know, cookies out of the vending machine. That seemed easy enough. Well I can't count the times I turned to my coworker and said, "I miss cookies." Still though, I had the Halos and Bananas. So I made it through that.
Then came Covid19! Now this is absolutely horrible I know. Yet there was a silver lining. With all the restaurants closed there were no buffets. I love buffets! I cannot imagine the calories I gave up there. Because of Covid19 I was laid off work. Now I know that should be depressing but I wasn't at all. Instead, the challenge was what to do with my time. For one I had asked for vacation to see my granddaughter who lives far away and was denied. That door now was wide open. Which I did and had a wonderful time! Also there were projects to do around the house. I had purchased a new home about a year and a half ago. There was garage to unclutter, curtains to hang, and yard that needed love.
Since I had all this time I started walking again. I think of walking as a gift. Believe me it was tough! I hadn't done much walking for a while and I could tell it. In the evening after walking I would grunt just to get off the couch. Eventually I was walking 5 miles a day. To be open, that included trips to the fridge. However, I also started logging my food daily. While I've been a member of MFP for quite some time I had done poorly at logging food.
Another thing I started getting more involved in is Archery. Heck, I've even made some rather bad archery videos. I love them though. I think of Archery has exercise and so does Fitbit. My activity minutes would increase from the effort of shooting arrows. You must remember that you have to fetch those arrows and drawing back a bow takes effort.
So what are the results of all of this. I'm down 20lbs. Not huge but I like it. Then too I have probably saved thousands of dollars not eating out. The big one, my belly is further away from the steering wheel. Yay!
