Hi! I'm Joy, and I'm really excited to be joining this community. Trying to get into shape is hard by myself, and I'm eager to get some support people around me to make this journey a bit more fun.

I'll be 40 in October, and I just found out that I'm starch-sensitive: I've spent the last year trying to figure out why my weight is the way it is. I started out this journey last May and weighed 235 pounds (I'm 5'7"). The majority of the extra weight has been inflammation, and I managed to get down to my target of 195 in February, but then I fell off the carb wagon, gaining back 15 pounds. I've managed to take 5 off since then by diet alone, and now I'm doing Walk Away The Pounds 5 days a week. Still adjusting my diet and decided to try this app for help (I had no idea onions were so high in carbs - I eat them like crazy!).

Any other carb/starch-sensitive people out there? I would love to hear from you!

Blessings!
Joy

I'm a diabetic so I guess in a roundabout way I am starch sensitive. There are no foods that I'm not allowed to eat but I have to watch the carb intake. For me it's 60g of carbs per meal and 25-30g for snacks. A maximum of 200-225g per day. I probably consume less than half that amount most days... Unless I get a craving for potato chips😳.. then it goes out the window .
Another thing the Dr told me to look at was the amount of fiber as well and subtract it from the carbs to get net carbs. You mentioned onions, they don't appear to be that high in carbs . 9g per 100g of onion and 1.7g of dietary fiber. That's just over 7g of net carbs in 100g of onions.
How many carbs do you consume per day?

I ate 1/2 cup of red onions sauteed in oil on a salad, and my arthritic knee swelled up almost immediately (it seems to act as an early warning sign). MFP didn't seem to like it either; maybe I set the carb macro counter too low at 5%. Most of my over-weight seems to be inflammation, and keto works for me to reduce that.

Also, the sugar-laden coffee creamer hasn't been helping, so I ordered some monk fruit sweetener and am gonna pick up some half-and-half on Monday's shopping trip to replace the creamer.
