I'm going to the zoo with my family this weekend. The cost of food is usally outrageous, and not-so-healthy. i'm wondering if anyone has some good advice about what would be some good snacks to take along: storebought or homemade.

    I DO!!!!
I actually went a few weeks back. My husband and I had his neices for a few days and they eat very healthy! Probably the only kids I know that don't like chocolate.
We got strawberries and watermelon. I cut it all up and seperated it into little bags. I froze the watermelon so it would be cold and crisp when we actually ate it.
Make sure you bring plenty of napkins and wetwipes!!! It will be messy!
    I hope this helps :)

I make homemade trail mix and bring this with me everywhere. You can use any combo of dried fruits (no sugar added, the only ingredient should be fruit) raw nuts, seeds, granola, etc. Use 1/4 cup of each and mix together. A serving size is 1/4 cup and around 160 calories (depending on what you put in there.)

I also put together single servings of grapes, whole grain crackers, and/or string cheese for my daughter to snack on while we're out.

Peanut butter crackers work well too - fresh ground peanut butter and whole grain crackers. 1 tablespoon of peanut butter will make 3 cracker sandwiches and it's about 160 calories for that serving.
