Kidney/Black Beans on Phase 1 South Beach- allowed?

Hello- I can't seem to find a straight answer on this; seeing mixed allowances. Followed a 'phase 1 recipe' for chili but then came across an article saying beans are a no-no due to carbs. Which is it? I love chili for lunch, especially in a cold office!

If you like beans in your chili then eat them. Weight loss is caused by being in a calorie deficit.3

Beans were allowed in Phase 1 in previous versions of the plan, my understanding is that they are no longer allowed until Phase 2. That's why you'll see contradictory recipes.
Like pointed out above, if beans are something you enjoy, there's really no reason not to eat them. Weight loss is created by a calorie deficit, not by avoiding beans. SB is a good example of a diet that is always changing to keep things "fresh" but there's not like there any scientific data as to why beans should be avoided just for those two weeks, but are fine afterwards.4
