Logging a run with breaks

My 5 year old often rides his bike with me when I go on short runs. As 5 year olds are inclined to do, we usually stop during the run to play in a park, watch a construction crew digging up the street, collect leaves and pine cones, etc. During our breaks my heart rate will go back down close to normal.

Can I still log these runs for the total amount of time I’m actually running? Does the break impact total calories burned? For example if I run to a park 15 minutes away, we stop for 10 minutes, then run 15 minutes home, should I log a 30 min run? Does it matter?

You can log one 30 minute run or two 15 minute runs. You'll notice the burned calories will be pretty much the same in both cases (any difference will be due to rounding numbers).

Log the distance. HR and time have little to do with the calories burned.
