Gained back 5lbs over night!?

Yesterday morning I was 215 today I was 220. What the heck! Recognize it's a slow and steady wins the race deal, but what is the science here! I just have to laugh because it's the only thing keeping me motivated, weird body of mine.

Anyone else have big, weird jumps?

    • Did you eat later last night than the night before?
    • Did you drink later last night than the night before?
    • Did you weigh earlier?
    • Did you wear different clothes (if indeed you wear clothes to weigh)?
    • Did you physically move the scales?
    • Had you passed a bowel movement?
    • Did you work out yesterday?
    • Did you eat overly salty food like a takeaway?
    • Did you eat way over your calorie burn?
    • Are you on your period?
    • Are you about to start your period?
    • Is it a day ending in -day?
    • Did you forget to make an offering to the scale gods and do a little dance?

If the answer to any of the above question is yes, that's probably your answer. The heavier you are currently, the wilder the numbers can swing. If you want to see a more consistent movement, you need to recreate the same conditions each day, but even then, because (as everyone here says) "weight loss is not linear", sometimes the scales just seem to hate you. The good news is that it corrects itself over time. :)

I weigh daily too, but only 'count' my daily weigh-in on one particular day of the week. Helps keep me from freaking out when there are swings like that - I can see it sorting itself out over time.

It’s probably water weight, you did not gain 5lbs of fat overnight. Don’t let it derail you, weigh only once a week for sanity reasons. When I was losing weight I had to skip weighing myself the week before my period due to many pounds of water retention which would eventually go away the next week. It was annoying having to wait an extra week to see my progress but worth it to not get discouraged. Good luck on your journey! :)

@RunsWithBees and @thelastnightingale , now that you mention it, I am about to start my period! Smdh, I totally forgot that was a thing 😅 I think I also ate later and ate a bunch of salty food yesterday...

I try to only count my Sunday weigh ins, but it for sure made my eyes pop open a bit when I stepped on the scale this morning!
