Question about my calories.

I'm currently at 340lbs with the height of 5'11 and MFP recommends I eat 2990 calories to lose 2 lbs a week. I used to be a powerlifter but now I'm wanting to cut the weight and get back down to a normal size. Does the calories seem right to you guys? I was eating between 3500-5000 calories a day

Mfp is designed for you to eat back your exercise calories, so you eat the 2990 plus your additional exercise calories.2

Yeah, sounds right.0

At 3500 to 5000: were you gaining or maintaining?0

Sounds about right.
They're usually pretty close, Myfitnesspal uses the Mifflin St. Jeor BMR plus Activity calorie calculator.
Here's the explanation:

Best thing is to log food and exercise for a month and see how it's working for you. Adjust when you get a good month's worth of data.1
