When I reach my goal weight I have a huge fitness goal. I want to be able to deadlift the amount of weight I have lost, which will be 165 lbs, Right now I am 100 lbs down, 65 lbs to go. I would like to start training for that goal but have NO idea where to start. Anyone have any information on the ins and outs of deadlifting?

I'm just starting to research dead lifting as well.
Start light, get the form correct.
Lots of help on google and youtube.0 -
YESSSS Start deadlifting right MEOW!!!!
I think Mark Rippetoe's deadlift instruction is pretty great, you can get a handful of instructional videos on youtube that will be clear enough for anyone to understand what proper deadlift form is.
Start with the weight of the bar to learn the form, you will be able to lift it. Set it on some sort of elevated blocks to approximate the height of a 45lb plate. Thats the height you want to lift from.0 -
Here's a video which pretty much explains the proper form. Start off with a comfortable weight and slowly progress your way up. http://youtu.be/1vcBQNqfxe80

Don't let people intimidate you on deadlifts.. there are so many different variations some people will be form hippies and try to tell you're doing it wrong.
... with that said though... You should know WHICH deadlift you'd like to try first (I'm assuming conventional). Youtube is a great source for knowledge: Brandon Lily and guys like Brand Cambell and Omar Isuf are great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0bY-gp8uR80 -
Make sure you just aren't just dead lifting. While they are an excellent compound lift, there are muscles that get worked out much more than others. You can create an imbalance in your legs if dead lifts are your only lift. Your hamstrings will be way stronger than your quads. In the very least squat to keep your quads up to par. Large muscle imbalances can leave you injury prone.
Should really use this time and motivation to start a starting strength program. I'd recommend Stronglifts 5x5. It works and you can get the basic program for free. There are plenty of others.

That is a fantastic fitness goal! (And I would bet good money you would easily surpass your goal if you start training now.)
I just kept replaying these videos. That's how I learned to deadlift.

I also looked for videos of women deadlifting, which completely inspired me.

Lastly, the thing the above videos didn't specify is you want the barbell to come up to about the middle of your shins, (the more experienced lifters achieve that with using 45lb plates) which you can do by propping the barbell up with plates, or those plastic step thingees in step classes.
Good luck. Women who deadlift are awesome! :flowerforyou:0 -
