"Burning Calories"

I inserted my workout for today and it reported back that I somehow burned "1,524". This doesn't seem possible. By what metric is the amount of calories burned calculated?

Is it possible that it is giving you the calories burned so far for the whole day???(not just exercise)4

Do you mean you entered your exercise into the MFP exercise database, using one of the standard exercises there in the cardiovascular section?
If so, which exercise, how many minutes of it did you do, and what's your current weight?
The MFP database exercise entries, generally speaking, are research-based, but some are more reliable/likely to be accurate than others. It's possible to burn 1500 calories in a day from exercise alone, but it's quite a high number, for most of us. It would be more plausible if you're a fairly large person, doing the exercise for quite a long time period, but it would also depend on the type of the exercise, which is why I'm asking.
If you're entering the exercise in a fitness tracker or some outside app (like MapMyRun, say, or another app), then we need more details about what you're asking about.5
