So I recently made a discussion about if it’s possible to gain weight as a lacto-ovo-pescatarian and due to the help and guidance of a few I have gained weight and continue to monitor and gain more as I go. My only concern would be that I’m intaking too much fish a week, I thought I’d ask on here before speaking to my dr. I feel healthy but I am consuming at least 1 salmon per day, I switch it up for shrimp or halibut when I want something different. I do know all of these land on the low mercury level but can I still end up getting mercury poisoning and should I lower my intake.

According to current FDA opinion, that is too much fish. Salmon is in the 2-3 servings a week category (a serving being four ounces). Shrimp is in the same category. Halibut is supposed to be just one.

Many pescatarians don't completely replace non-fish meat with fish, they also will try out non-meat sources of protein like beans, tofu, tempeh, or seitan. These are all good foods to limit your mercury exposure while meeting your needs for protein.

Thank you. I read a few Articles talking about how a salmon a day is perfectly fine and is actually really healthy but I don’t think this was backed up my professional I think it was just someone’s blog
