Juice Cleanse - just thinking about doing it for a jump start

I am thinking about doing a 3-day Juice Cleanse, just to jump start me back in the right direction. Life has been a bit crazy lately, and I have fallen back into some bad habits... and the lbs are finding their way back too!
Have any of you done a juice cleanse? The ready-made ones look convenient, however fairly expensive. What did you try, what was your experience like?
Any suggestions?

Nope, I/we don't need that. It will not help; forget about it and just count calories and exercise. Good luck.12

You dont need a jump start.
If you are truly ready to lose, you wake up the next day and you log your calories
3 days on nothing but juice, stripped of any nutrition is 3 days of being miserable, 3 days of potential cave ins and 3 days of artifical lost weight from water fluctuations.
You eat after 3 days and the scale will go back up and you will be left wondering why you went through all that in the first place18 -
A juice cleanse is, in a nutritional sense, actually bad for you. Fruit juice is a quick sugar hit with no attendant fiber. That's why current pediatric recommendations don't even recommend it for kids anymore. Too much of any one food can mess with your gut flora and the more we learn the more we find healthy gut flora is necessary for health.
Use something else if you need it to get back on track, like a big mark on the calendar or a new houseplant or a new piece of costume jewelry like a bracelet as a glorified piece of string around your finger.13 -
No. It's pure trash and will not "jump start" anything (except maybe trips to the toilet). Save your money.10

Examples of bad habits:
Crash dieting.
Very low amounts of the two essential macros (protein & fat).
Impatience.
Inappropriate low calories.
Malnutrition.
Spending money on "miracle cures" promising to provide a short term result to a long term problem.
Suggestion:
Put health at the centre of your goals rather than just weight loss and you will see this idea isn't part of a healthy lifestyle or attitude.

Free cleanse. Take 4 cups warm water, lemon, juice, and 4 tbsp of epson salts. You will cleanse and cleanse.... and then cleanse some more. No, don't do that, but what you would be cleansing if you did is what a "juice" cleanse is worth.3

I did a 7 day juice fast at a yoga retreat center. While I enjoyed the experience, it didn't jump start anything. I would not have been able to do it at home.3

you are not a car...you don't need a "jump start".....Just start eating more whole foods...fruit, veg, root veg, lean meats, good fats, oats, lentils, cooking at home, etc...I don't see how a juice fast gets you on track for better nutrition...just get better nutrition with foods you eat and stop with all of the marketing crap and eat responsibly and exercise regularly...this *kitten* really isn't that hard...use common sense, it's not all that common these days, but that's only because people don't exercise it...
The number of people I've known that lost meaningful weight and kept it off with juice fasts, cleanses and whatnot....ZERO...The number of people who are lean and fit and eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly...a lot..9 -
Your body can only release so much fat as energy on any given day, so while you may see a large drop in weight in that 3 days it will likely be largely water weight, *some* fat but also potentially some muscle, which you really don't want. It's not worth it, and is not helpful. Pick a reasonable rate of loss given your current weight, and just start eating towards that. Don't waste your time/money/lean body mass.5

I agree with @cwolfman13. You already have biology, psychology, and environment working against you for long term weight loss. Why complicate an already tough thing? All kidding aside. K.I.S.S. Small, longterm, sustainable changes add up. If you do not believe me about the challenges of long term weight loss, read this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5764193/
It's a paper by Dr. Dr. Kevin Hall. NIH obesity researchers. Shout out to Kevin Hall and his crew up in Bethesda for trying to help us obese and overweight in recovery.1 -
You don't need to 'cleanse.' You have a liver and kidneys to do that for you. Start eating more whole foods, track them, and exercise.6

I did it once, unintentionally. Ate a huge bag of satsumas in one day as they were so delicious. Ended up with dreadful cramps and stuck near the loo for two days. Did I lose weight? Nope. Did I “cleanse”? Well I emptied my system but it was not fun.
I now buy satsumas in small amounts to prevent a repeat!!! 🤣8 -
I am so happy that I came here first! You are all terrific about reinforcing what I really already knew. Guess I just was getting caught up in the hype... Each of you have some valid points, and even though we do not know each other, it means so much to me that you offered your advise, the support here is amazing!
I will take your advise, and get back into doing what we all know works, CICO! Thank you for saving me from throwing away $100+ too!
As they say, time to buckle-up butter-cup, tie up those laces and get moving! I am getting back today, jouraling my food/drink intake, and got in a nice 40 minute walk this morning before heading off to work.22 -
There is a juice cleanse company that advertises on my local radio stations, and many of the radio djs 'endorse' the product and talk about doing cleanses each month. It used to be just in Jan/Feb (when everyone jumps on the lose-weight-bandwagon) but this year they have continued. I change the station when they come on.4

All these sort of cleanses do is give you diahhroea and short term water weight loss.
Do not do any cleanses unless for medical reason - eg colonoscopy prep.
otherwise - No.2 -
Why not try a well balanced healthy week 'cleanse'. Whole foods -no starvation - lots of fresh healthy stuff...not a crazy/unbalanced approach. Cut out the stuff you know that make you feel like crap.
Sometimes a 'jump start' does help inspire a sustainable/healthier approach to a better lifestyle/diet. Getting excited about 'new' is fun!
Good luck - do your homework - set your goals and have fun! Good for you:)4
