I was once diagnosed with it, but a neurologist/scientist told me that Fibromyalgia is NOT a diagnosis but a lack of one. All it means is painful tendons and muscles. It tells one nothing about what is really wrong or what is causing it. Doctors should just say I have no idea why you have all this pain, but instead give it a fancy name that means nothing useful. They had me on Lyrica for a while and I gained 70 lbs and felt bad. Any med that helps with this kind of pain blocks sodium. This is how it slows nerve reaction. This unbalances your electrolytes and then you really start getting worse. When I came off Lyrica and other meds like Tegretol, I ended up not sleeping for days and ended up in the ER. The best treatment for FM is daily exercise and a well-balanced diet. This site is full of all kinds of great info on that. Healthy living is the key. I found meditation and especially Tai Chi trained my mind to ignore the pain that comes from nerve damage. I do Tai Chi first thing every morning along with deep breathing. So much nerve damage and pain are caused by viruses. If you ever had chickenpox then your pain may be from that and trying to slow nerves firing is not the answer. Fitness and diet is the key! I am 69 and have been dealing with nerve problems all my life and encourage anyone to forget about doctors labeling people with meaningless names and calling it a diagnosis. Fibro means relating to fibers and myalgia means pain in a muscles or group of muscles, so what did the doctor tell you that you didn't already know?
