Things I did that prepared me for the big diet

Hi everyone,
I am on my second day of the Abs Diet by David Zinczenko. I would like to delve into the topic of diet 'readiness' 5 years ago I was just another uni student who couldn't cook properly, my food was bland, my diet knowledge was misinformed and also I was not even exercising due to a few chronic illnesses including a bad back.
I would like to concentrate on how we build up the energy and mental capacity to start such dramatic changes to our body.
Here is that massive, invisible learning curve that has helped me start this diet.
1. A career change - I work a lot less now, I used to be an overworker and did not prioritise myself at all!
2. I learnt how to cook - Even before healthy eating, I find eating plain food absolutely lacking in satiety. I now eat a huge variety of foods and my second favourite thing to do next to keeping fit and eating healthy is actually to be a fan of culinary delights. Learning to cook was crucial in helping me heighten my taste bud sensors and therefore , when I eat I get greater satisfaction, first from making it myself, secondly the expertise in food helped me pin point different flavours in food. Everything I tasted was more satisfying as the different flavours started singing out to me after a while. I even dreamt the flavours of coriander.
Also having cooked even unhealthy foods teach you to eat less because you realise how much crap, and extra hidden calories there are in food cooked outside of the home.
3. Learn to use spices in cooking - Enough salt and pepper, or butter or gravy, the more complex the flavour, the less I needed to eat junk food. Every new dish became a new adventure. Don't go cheap on the herbs and spices, they make or break the meal.
4. I learnt to weight lift - like every other girl I was terrified of bulking up, but it is not true, I can deadlift (sounds scary) my own body weight and I look exactly the same size. My PT said most of our pre existing muscles are asleep and all you are doing is waking the muscles up and teaching your body to fire up the muscles more efficiently.
I also found being stronger an AMAZING feeling, imagine having less gravity, imagine everything is easier to do. It's not an understatement when I say you feel like you have super powers for the first time.
5. Study your diet books - in detail and don't stray - I basically read as many reliable diet book sources as I could and found the common denominators.
SO GOOD LUCK TO ME....so guys, tell me what did you do to mentally and physically prepare yourself for these dramatic changes to your body? I am very keen to know.
