New(ish) to MFP!

Hi everyone, I'm Claire. I've been using MFP for a little over a month now and never thought to introduce myself to the community, ahh. Rectifying that now. I'm in my mid-20s and aiming for 145 lbs/66 kgs. Got a sweet little golden retriever called Theo who is my main reason for ungluing myself from the work chair during the day.

Work on the caloric deficit and you WILL get your 66! 500kcal deficit daily, 1 pound of fat you shave off in a week. You can do it! Quarantine hasn't stopped me from walking my 10k steps + 1.5 hour gym sessions! Gotta get the booty moving to look the way I wanna look. Virus ain't stopping me 🤗1

That's incredible! Well done. I'm taking baby steps because I'm all about building a solid foundation - I've started & failed too many times to rush this and have it happen again. So when I started MFP I did daily walks with the puppy around the block, and we've slowly expanded our route to include most of downtown. Yesterday I hopped on the elliptical at the gym as well, and I'm looking to go three times a week for at least 30 min (although I really think I could push myself and do the full hour workout). Running a 500kcal deficit with MFP aiming me around 1470 daily and NOT counting gym/walking calories so that maybe I can get a lil bonus.
It might be slow, but I'm aiming for that 66 by June 19 next year. c:0 -
Walking is a really underrated cardio. It doesn't take a big toll on the body which means that recovery isn't an issue and one can do it day in, day out. That also equates to a greater calorie expenditure. Not many people know this but even an intense lifting gym session doesn't burn much calories in comparison to any form of cardio like walking. The goal in the gym should be to build muscle. Period! Cardio is the way to go for weight loss and it is hard to beat walking. The elliptical is a great cardio machine. So is the treadmill set on an incline and a step climber. More frequent and lengthier Low Intensity steady state (LISS) cardio is the way to go. Work on being a better you day after day week after week. That way, you will keep the weight off happily and more importantly, sustainably!0
