I plan some calories to allow for a snack before bedtime, and then, honestly, I go to bed. Staying up late is too tricky for me.3

Sleep!
Seriously if you can get into an early to bed, early to rise routine you will not just eliminate late night snacking but also get to enjoy early mornings. I won’t pretend it’s an easy habit to develop but it’s worth it.3 -
I prefer to sleep with food in my stomach, so I just plan my day so that I can eat at night. I eat lighter earlier in the day.3

What are some tricks to reduce late night eating?
First of all understand that you can eat all your calories in the late night and as long as it does not create a problem like acid reflux it makes no different.
Like others have suggested I think compromise is good if you can do it. Leave calories for a snack.
Make sure you are not trying to lose weight too fast. If I have not eaten enough food for myself and my activity after about the third day I struggle with night time eating.
Make sure you are keeping your hunger in check. I eat high protein and high protein to keep my hunger under control. I supplement this with high volume but that is more preference than requirement. I can go days with less volume and be fine.
If you are still struggling after all the above it is time to look at your night time habits. If you are eating when you are not hungry you are probably eating out of habit. If it is normal for you to watch TV with a snack then your brain associates TV with snacking. Find something else to do with your hands or find a different activity than TV.
Also it is important to remember that in normal situations hunger is not an emergency and cravings are optional. It feels unnatural to say no to more eating and it is uncomfortable to turn off the auto-pilot that allows you to eat with very little conscious effort but it is something that many of us have to get a handle on. But just so you know I believe in compromise first because constant deprivation is miserable and misery is not a good companion when trying to lose weight.5 -
Mostly what the others have said above,
You could drink a couple of glasses of water to see if you are actually hungry or just craving a snack. If you're still hungry then make yourself a low calorie snack.
If you're not then you'll have no desire for food after the water lol.
Prepping low calorie snack for at night, ill sometimes have some chopped up cucumber and tomatoes with a couple of slices of salami. Or some nuts and dried fruit.
But I'll save calories from earlier in the day, I generally have a light breakfast and lunch because I prefer to snack at night too.
Another good tip is brushing your teeth. Just like your brain might signal 'have a snack whilst watching TV'. Brushing your teeth is what most people do when they've finished eating for the day.
Firstly you wont want to have to brush your teeth AGAIN. and secondly, ever ate anything after brushing your teeth? Ew.
And better yet, just go to sleep if you're tired enough!3
