Help setting calorie goals

Hi — was looking for guidance on setting a calorie goal. Am 62 pretty sedentary (no intentional exercise) and Type 2 diabetic. I weigh 211 pounds. The goal MFP set for me is 1390. Grateful for any suggestions.

The goal is based on the weekly weight loss you chose. You chose 2lbs per week? Plus it's based on gender, age, size and weight. You can influence the first part if it is too low. And it seems very low indeed. If you want to eat more and have an easier, though slower weight loss then chose a slower rate of loss.

Also, I suggest you get a digital food scale and weigh everything with calories. It's a real eye opener how bad we are at estimating and how much off cups and spoons are. Finally, make sure you chose correct database entries. There are lots of real stinkers in there.

Pick your calorie goal with more emphasis on sustainability rather than speed - don't make a hard job even harder by picking the fastest rate of loss which results in a very restrictive calorie allowance.

Cultivate a long term view of progress, ignore short term set backs or slip ups.

For your long term health do your very best not to be sedentary, add as much "human powered" movement into your daily and weekly routines as possible.
