Almost There

I am within a pound of my stated goal weight (in my heart, that's the top of my desired range, but I wanted to feel success as soon as possible). It has been a LONG, LONG haul. The last time I lost weight (and kept it off for 4-5 years and only gained back because I had gone back to school and that's always a real stressor for me), it didn't take me nearly as long.

I am in my 70s now, so that's a factor, but I'm more active than I was the previous time because I am retired now and can walk and work out a lot more than I could back then. I started October 13th at 34.2 pounds more than I am right now, so we're talking about an average weight loss of about 4 pounds per month. Week after week was nothing or maybe 0.2 lbs at most.

It was frustrating beyond belief - would my age really make THAT much difference? I was at about the same calorie deficit as the last time I tried. Even set MFP to 2 lbs per week, set my calorie goal, and it nevertheless told me I could only lose 0.2 lbs per week, so it wasn't something I was doing wrong.

Now I'm almost there, and I'm hoping to lose even a bit more for a cushion as I go through transition and then carefully into maintenance. All of which I devoutly hope will be by the end of this very month!

I am adamant that I WILL NEVER GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. Too much work, too long a haul, too frustrating. I will be on maintenance and hold myself accountable with regular weighing-in for the rest of my life.

I WILL NEVER GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

    Preach.

    That's how I feel too.

I reached my maintenance weight nearly twelve years ago. I'm still here logging my food and weighing myself daily.

It's not just something I can stop doing. It has to be on my mind every day.

Heard that. There are so many stories on MFP about losing and regaining weight. I have a couple of those myself. I will gladly weigh in every day and log my food and exercise. That's a small inconvenience, compared to doing all that hard work to lose weight again.

You bet. I do not want to go through this arduous work ever again! I'd rather measure and log my food and weigh myself for the rest of my life. (Which I mostly did last time I was in maintenance until I went back to school.)
