Going strictly by calories, flaky white fish (like cod or haddock) is going to have less calories than a fattier, oily fish (like salmon or tuna).

But, there are factors to consider other than calories...differences in fat and protein for example. Also, if you're going to eat a lot of it, you should check the mercury concentrations in different varieties of fish.

What matters is where it comes from. Fish from Canada, USA, North Atlantic (Norway, Scotland, etc.) are clean, safe and healthy. Fish from Asia and South America have a big asterisk. Maybe ok. Why bother. Plenty of good choices from countries that follow the rules. Read the label for frozen. Ask the clerks in the store.

Interestingly enough, the "healthiest" fish tend to be high in calories because the fat content. Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, etc... is some of the best because of the high omega 3 content.

Personally, i tend to consume salmon, stealhead trout, ahi tuna and mahi mahi. White fished tend to be bland and require breading or a lot of spices to make them palatable. And most importantly, i dont find fat free fishes filling.
