Trying to avoid the plateau!

I’ve been at this for what seems like forever. My story is like so many others; athlete when I was growing up, played basketball and volleyball through high school and a little in college, entered the real world and went from an athlete’s body of 125 to 260 in less than 3 years. Life happened and it was horrible. It took me 5 years to loose 100 lbs and now I just float -/+10 lbs. My current weight is right about the weight where I plateau…then give up and gain 10 lbs back
Basically…I do not want this happen again! I’m not getting any younger lol. So if this is your common problem, let’s jump over the plateau!!
I love to hear about new exercise routines and love to cook healthy meals. My whole view on food has changed over the last few months. I am more aware of what I put in my food, and the way I work out.
I know there a people out there like me!! Friend me!!

Break the plateau - eat more (cleaner) to have more fuel to increase your work out. The intensity at which you increase will break that plateau. Add new exercises to your basic workout - mix it up a bit - strength training is the best way to murder fat as your body requires more resources to build muscle tissue then fat tissue. Lift the fat off. -84lbs and still going.0

I'm stuck at a plateau myself and also would love to get some tips. I'm 9 lbs away from 100 lbs lost since my heaviest. My heaviest was 13 years ago so it's definitely been a marathon and not a sprint. :-)
During this time I discovered I have thyroid disease and spent 3 years figuring out how to combat that.0 -
I did hit a plateau about 3 months ago, stuck at 190lbs, but I am approaching this issue this month. Started this month off by increasing my calorie intake so my body can handle it. I was at an intake of about 1500 cal, Now I am at 2000 cal, going to 2100 next week. I figured I go to maintenance mode, let my body get out of shock, then going back into a deficient. I cut out alot of cardio too this month, and even thinking about doing nuthin but strength training next month and going up to 2500 cal, expecting to gain some weight but not alot. I really think my body needs a break, not meaning that I should eat junk, who knows? I am just experimenting and seeing what happens.0

I've been on a plateau as well - well I stay the same for about a month if not longer, then loose a few lbs for a couple of weeks then BAM back comes the plateau!
I've lowered by cals to 1400 from 1500 (yes I'm using the TDEE - 20%) and switched up my workouts (30DS Mon, Wed & Fri) then my ski machine on Tues/Thurs and in between I'll squeeze in my own thought up strength training session that lasts for at least 30 min.....
Still haven't seen a change since I did this 2 wks ago.... add me as a friend and we'll work on this together...
Any other suggestions from ppl?0 -
what exercises do you do now? do you lift? I have found that adding heavy lifting to my exercise routine has caused me to shred inches WAY quicker than just focusing on cardio alone.0

I tried a lot of things and it is though to find what works for you. In the last 3 weeks, I have eaten TDEE+500 and I have not put on 1 pound and there are other weeks where I eat TDEE-1000 and I have put on weight.
I am currently using the zig zag method to get out of my current plateau. I eat my TDEE on day 1, then 1200 less than TDEE on day 2. I do at least 90 minutes of weightlifting + 1h00 of cardio 4 days with a 1 day rest. It should help me losing fat and keeping a maximum of muscle mass.
I don't recommend that for everybody (and I am currently unemployed so I have a lot of time to go to the gym) but it is working great so far for me.0 -
I think sometimes the plateau is inevitable..I have gone from 281 to 165. I am completely thrilled that I have lost so much and I have worked extremely hard to get here. I had a goal of 150 to start with and find that no matter what I am doing I have stayed at 165. But I am getting back to basics and trying to get over this hurtle! I do know that I have to increase the exercise or what I am doing but sometimes find it hard to continue.0

My main forms of exercise is kickboxing, which I do about 3-4 times a week (an hour each session), and I go jogging/biking 1-2 days. I have cut out just about anything processed, I mean I'm not perfect and I have a cheat day when I will go out to eat. No gluten, really no carbs except for what you get from veggies. And for the last few days I cut back of fruits.
I feel like I'm doing everything right...and nothing lol
My next plan of attack is going to be upping my kickboxing sessions. Maybe do a double one day a week... Let's see!!0 -

Good advice and good job on the -84 - go you! - for the last month my eating has been clean, with the occasional meal out (like 1 a week) but even then I always try and pick the cleanest thing! Maybe I just need to give it more time0 -

I'm ready more into switching up or confusing your body is best. I too think I will try and change it up next week and see what happens.

Sorry to hear about the thyroid disease! That has to be tough. I'm sure if you research it a bit there must be some good food/exercise plans for people that have a thyroid problem. I'll let you know if I come across any in my research, which I am always doing!!0 -
I've done all kinds of research about thyroid disease and what to eat, thus the weight loss I've accomplished to date. I'm a part of several FB groups and such but I always welcome more information!0
