Hi Guys. 55, from the midwest, now unemployed due to Covid (like I needed that too!), and I’m about 100 lbs fatter than I was a couple of years ago.
I’ve always had a struggle with weight. I was the fat little kid in elementary and middle school, trimmed down a lot in high school, up and down in college and after
My weight was pretty stable and I did a lot of regular exercise until I had a bad accident a couple of years ago and ended up breaking a leg, wrist, thumb, foot, and tore a rotator cuff. I said I wouldn’t let all of that, surgeries, crutches, cast, and months of PT derail me. But it did. 10 became 25 became 50 became 75 became 100.
I’ve gotten fat, soft, and worst, lazy. I used to look forward to the gym, riding a bike, running, swimming, and I took boxing lessons for a few years, which was really fun. I also used to be careful about my nutrition, ate high protein, healthy fats, moderate and only complex carbs, drank a ton of water. The past year especially has been junk food, diet (mostly) soda, no water, no vitamins, no exercise. In fact, I loathe the idea of working out now, I’m always “too tired, maybe tomorrow”
I need to get back to a healthy place and attitude. I know it’s all mindset. I lived for years with a good “I can do this” mindset about nutrition and exercise. I want that back.
If times were “normal” I’d go back to a gym, sign up for a program or classes, but nothing is normal now. I have asthma and anemia, so I’m not risking a gym and exposure there.
Looking for other men around my age who can share their experiences and support each other.
