Hiya guys,

I have been doing the treadmill or walking outside for 30mins 3-4 times a week for the last 3 weeks to get started. I was thinking of adding some strength days. Any ideas on where to start for at home workout? I have some bands and can get some dumbells if needed. any strength workout videos on prime or Netflix you like?

I'm here to cosign @L1zardQueen's good advice. A lot of people pick strength training up, and just wing it. Then most of them wind up with muscle imbalances. Good lifting programs are well rounded, and help you build strength that's applicable to everyday life.

I don't have any specific things to suggest other than -- look up some body weight workouts for your glutes/hamstrings/calves/shins --- this stuff would be more to avoid injury but I think it's super important.

I got an injury (piriformis syndrome) and I have noticed a HUGE difference in being able to run/walk longer distances once strengthening my glutes/hammys/stomach/lower back.

thank you so much! i will look things up and add strength to my workouts starting Monday. I was thinking, doing 3 day cardio and 2 day strength? what do you think? Not sure If i mentioned this or it matters, but i am on a weight loss journey not gaining muscle (bulking).

Strength training won’t make you bulk. You have to really work at it, eat right, etc etc. Lift away and don’t concern yourself about bulking lol

Do what works for you given what you like and how much time you have. Personally, I do 4-5 days of lifting and 5-6 of cardio. Plus daily walks during the week and hiking with the dogs on weekends.
