I’m over 400 lbs and am losing at a snails pace. I gave it my all this week. Weighed and measured every morsel, stayed under my calorie and carb goals and drank about 100oz of water a day. I thought I was going to have an awesome weigh in and lost .8. Not even a pound! I just burst into tears. It sucks when you try so hard and don’t see results. I know weight loss is not linear and blah, blah, blah but someone my size should be dropping weight faster and it’s just frustrating.

Get your blood glucose checked out. Metabolic syndrome is a total cluster.

Congrats on losing even .8. Some weeks are better than others. I found that my losses sometimes lagged several days up to 2 weeks. How long have you been logging?
Consider opening your diary for others to look at. We have some folks on here who are very insightful to spot potential logging issues that might make you think you’re consuming a different amount of calories than you actually are.9 -

I am curious as to why this week was so hard for you. Did you do anything more than you absolutely needed? Did you do anything you will not be doing during your weight loss and for the rest of your life as you maintain it?
Weight is lost at 3500 calorie per pound whether you are very large, as I was, or closer to a healthy weight. I lose weight much slower than I first started but that is only because it is not healthy for me to lose weight that fast anymore. If the scale owes you some more weight because you were in a deficit of more than 2800 calories it will show up eventually. Larger people have no loss weeks, short weeks, and gain weeks just like everyone else. I should know.
What helped me was changing my perception from forcing weight loss to happen to allowing it to happen. I do what I am supposed to do and the weight loss is the bonus prize that shows up from time to time. It helped me to keep my daily process as simple as possible and try my best to make each day a happy day.20 -

Unless you have a specialist your doctor has little to no training in this area. They are good at monitoring your health as you lose weight but not much else. Some of the worse advice I have gotten as I have lost has been from medical professionals including doctors.

You hang in there. The advice people have given you above is good. I know it can be easy to fall into the old trap of feeling frustrated and just thinking f-it and eating, but nothing will change and you won’t feel better if you do. Rest easy knowing you are taking good care of yourself and the weight loss will come. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️1

It SUCKS when the scale doesn't respond. I don't know anyone who can completely shrug it off when you are working hard to lose weight.
The problem is that the variability of your weight day-to-day is larger than the amount you will lose in a typical week. You need to weigh daily and watch the trend. There are a number of trending apps that do this.
But, if that f'ing scale makes you unhappy, f'n stay off it! It's supposed to help, not hurt. You can always diet without it and just go by how you feel. It's just a f'ing number, anyway.4 -

I've never wanted to cry on the scale -- but I've been furious at it and have wanted to take it out with a sledgehammer, more than a few times.
Maybe it would work better for you to put your focus on something else. We really can't directly control the number on the scale, but there are other things that we can. Kimny72 posted this thread, The Goal is the Process, in 2018, and I've found it to be tremendously helpful when the stupid scale isn't giving me the results I want. Hit a certain number of steps, make sure you get a certain number of servings of fruits/veggies. Numbers like that you can be sure to achieve, and the scale will inevitably follow. Eventually.3 -

I think it's good to have only one recorded weighing time in the day (at most). For me its in the morning right after the toilet always in the same level of dress. It's as good as it gets for consistency and still it varies around by a few pounds.0 -
I have found it really useful to weigh in every day. I made a spreadsheet which I set up to show me my average (mean) weight over a calendar month, and that is often really helpful when the scale seems to be stuck: I can see that my average is still down from the previous month. That makes a plateau a lot easier to cope with. It also encourages me to think about maintenance when it comes as maintaining that monthly average.3

I started at 320, not quite where you're at but same general concept.
First, you're doing GREAT !!! 37 lbs lost is an outstanding investment in yourself. You should feel good about that, not crying. Weight loss comes and goes. Some weeks more, some less, some none, sometimes a huge drop out of nowhere - it's kinda random. You just have to keep plugging away.
Main thing I wanted to say: I lost 19 lbs my first month, 12 in month 2, and then it settled down to a consistent 8-9 for several more months, so I was struck by how much your #'s look like mine did way back when. It is kinda frustrating when the water is finally all drained off and the weight loss on the scale reflects the reality of fat burning rather than a mix of fat burning and water loss and other things that happen at the start of a diet but can't (and won't) continue forever. But if you keep going and doing what you're doing, it sounds like you're on track for that 8-9 ish pounds per month. Which, believe me, adds up and time passes quickly, so just keep pounding away and the scale will reflect it eventually.10 -

you're doing fine. don't try and squeeze out 10. 4 pounds per month is fine, more is a bonus - losing too fast is unhealthy and unsustainable; people who race to lose weight almost always gain it back. also losing weight fast often means losing more muscle as well as fat, which you don't want to do.
one more thing to consider is whether the food database entries you choose for your foods are accurate. i've found that literally most are not accurate including MFP's own entries. it could be worth checking. one guy here was logging his daily potato salad at what turned out to be 1/5th of the actual calories!

You are doing great. 10 a month is about how fast I lost from just after my 6th week through the end of the first year.
If you can keep yourself happy and try to avoid the highs and lows of the bathroom scale roller coaster time will fly by and the weight will disappear faster than your brain can keep up. At leas that is the way it is for me and some others. I still have a hard time registering that I am more than 250 pounds lighter.2 -
If you haven’t started already, take a photo of yourself each week, even if only from the neck up. I find it really helpful to have a visual reference. It’s hard to see the changes in the mirror, but you can’t deny them when you see it in photos.1

You’ve lost almost 10% of your body weight. Think about it. That’s remarkable , praiseworthy progress.
This needs to be a cup half full process.
It’s hard. I’m the emptiest cup person I know. It’s taken a total thought reversal, but you know what? It’s been amazing for my mental health, lol.7 -

I would strongly encourage you to do this and monitor the trends on Libra or Happy Scale. I months where I have weighed exactly the same at the beginning and end of the month but my trend line is clearly down. I have weigh ins from week to week that are higher than 2-3 weeks ago. Fluctuations are a real thing and mine can be as much as 8 pounds in a day. More weigh-ins really helps me see what’s actually happening.
Hang in there! You’re doing great. FWIW the recommended max rate of loss is 0.5-1% of your body weight per week. So you’d want to be hanging in the 2-4 pounds per week range. You’re at 37 in about 10 weeks. So you’re really doing very well.
As mentioned in another couple of responses-if you’re doing the “work” (logging/weighing your food, eating at a deficit, etc), the results WILL happen. Maybe not the second we want them to happen-but they will.

Wow!! You’re rocking this thing!!! Congrats. 37 lbs in like 10-11 weeks Is awesome!!!
If you squeeze out a few more pounds and get to ten for the third month your average will not be 7-10 lbs but 13.666 lbs/ month for the first three months!!!
If you lose 7-10 lbs per month for the next twelve months you’ll lose an additional 84-120 lbs!! Let’s say you are in the middle at approx 100 lbs. you will have lost 137 lbs in 15 months!!!

Be strong! Your doctor sees and meets all kinds of people. He/she can’t understand that your very serious about this because they probably see many folks who aren’t.
Be better than the scale! This is a lifestyle change and not a one shot quickie!! The scale doesn’t dictate to you- you know you’re doing the right stuff! So when the scale doesn’t respond the way you want- beat it into submission the next week.
Most of all. Be positive! You are amazing for dropping like 10% of your body weight in just 3 months. You obviously know how to do this and can continue to learn as you go.

You're doing great, but clearly finding it difficult to recognize it.
Can I suggest you also take your measurements? They don't fluctuate the way weight does.
I also find it helpful to focus on fitness goals. It might just be how far can you walk in 15 minutes to start with, but you will probably find you start making progress quite quickly. It's so motivating when you can see how much more you can achieve.4 -
Wow- I know it may not feel like it when you have a week where you give it your all and don't see the results you are expecting but you are doing great.
I agree that doctors do not know much about weight or weight loss. Years ago I had a doctor who told me the reason I had strep throat was because I was overweight- umm no, the reason I had strep throat was because I had 2 kids at home with it. Another doctor told me it was "easy to lose weight if I really wanted to."
I am currently part of a program that includes a weight loss coach. She reminded us we will not lose every week, some weeks we will go down, some we may stay the same or some even gain a little. So 1 lb. a week would be 4-5 pounds a month. That was helpful for me to hear because so often I have thrown in the towel when I haven't lost what I expected.

Do measurements as well, and look for non-scale victories. They have been things for me like "my pants are loose and I need a smaller size" "I had enough energy today that I didn't need a nap" "I wasn't so sore and exhausted after doing the weekly grocery shopping that I had to rest the rest of the day" and stuff also like "I logged a sweet treat and then forgot to eat it." Because I get NSVs and moments of "Wow, I think I started to see my waist!" in the mirror way more than I get on the scale and see pounds drop.3
