Any one with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?

I'm having a helluva time losing weight. I log all of my calories and I'm usually where I need to be. I work out 6-7 days a week. I run, walk, I've recently started Insanity- been doing this for the last 5 days. I do Fitness Blender workouts, I do Hapkido training 3 times a week and nothing. I'm actually gaining weight. I still drink a Pepsi or two and know that I shouldn't but that cannot be the only problem.

I know PCOS makes it difficult to lose weight but I also know that it can be done. Any suggestions?

I do have PCOS and started at 380 pounds and have lost about 185 pounds. Have you been tested for insulin resistance? If so are you taking metformin - if insulin resistant that seems to help people,,,,maybe speak to your doctor.

For me I counted calories...I calorie cycled (so slightly different calories each day but averaged out to a set calorie range) and I try to have one meal per day that is grain free. When I lost most of my weight my workouts were predominantly cardio with 1-2 resistance sessions per week (they werent heavy weights, primarily body weight training and some weight machine work). Now I do 2 sessions a week which is pretty heavy all over body weight training with 1-2 cardio sessions a week :)

I have PCOS and I'm IR. It is rough losing weight, but you can do it! I started 05/01/2013 and I have lost 21 pounds, but that was because I stopped everything I was doing due to a scare of breast cancer. I am doing a low carb diet, no more than 75 carbs a day, and if I do go past that it is no more than 100. I stay away from processed sugars, and keep my sugar intake less that 20 per day, but sometimes I can go over but no more than 25. I do nothing that is WHITE, like pasta, rice, potatoes, and bread. I have been staying away from bread at all cost. I drink between 6-10 glasses of water a day sometimes more. If I decide to do a diet soda I drink 4 8 oz. of water to a diet coke. I take Metformin 2000mg a day to help with my symtoms of PCOS.

If you need help with motivation, or a friend to talk PCOS with I have sent a Friend request add me.

Don't get discouraged. Its difficult to figure out what works for anyone when dieting, but there is an extra layer of difficulty for those of us with PCOS. I have lost 60 lbs without meds, just focusing on my diet. When I first started I cut out all carbs for about a month and just focused on cardio. I then brought back non-processed carbs, so I eat quinoa, amaranth, etc. I stay away from anything white, like missa said. I find that for me, processed food is the devil. It makes it very hard for me to maintain my weight if I eat it regularly. In addition to limiting my processed food, I also try to avoid eating carbs (other than from fruits/veggies) after lunch. That works for me, but it may not work for you. Its really a process of finding what works for your body. I used a fantastic book when I was first diagnosed called the Ultrametabolism. I got the cookbook. It explained a lot about how our bodies process foods and provided recipes to help change your diet. It isn't meant specifically for PCOS, but the recipes in it work for us too. My GYN actually recommended it because she also has PCOS.

Friend me if you want support. It can be done, you just have to figure out what is right for you!
