Hello Everyone,

I have recently started running and needed some advice on how I can get some gear to help run in the cold/dark.

1. Does anyone have any suggestions of thermal/warm gear?
2. Any reflective gear?

I don't usually run if its below 20F out, I just wear regular long running pants with no extra insulation or layers on my lower half and feel fine. Just make sure you have full length pants in whatever brand is currently working for you and you should be good to go unless you plan to go out in really extreme conditions.

I am not too picky about shirts and jackets when I run. You will want light layers that are comfortable for you. Under 30 degrees I wear a thin long sleeve shirt, I have cheaper ones from walmart activewear or a few race shirts, with a 1/4 zip running sweatshirt (again walmart activewear). I highly recommend at least a 1/4 zip style if you can find it, I have one without and if I start to overheat its really a bummer to not be able to unzip the neck. Don't think more expensive is necessarily better, my walmart jackets have the zipper and my much more expensive brooks jacket doesn't, I much prefer my walmart ones. I don't personally care for the styles that cover you hands, I would rather wear gloves so I can use my hands better. I just buy the cheap $1 gloves at walmart.

I have had this light vest for 18 months and love it. Works well and I really like having the chest lamp instead of a flashlight or head lamp : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CC3Z4T7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm in the UK, so this might not be helpful.
My go-to would be Alpkit for head torch and Decathlon for run gear.

Rain jackets are annoying as you sweat in them, I prefer a long sleeved top and gilet.

I will usually start with gloves, neck buff, hat or headband and take them off as I warm up, easy to shove in a pocket as you go.

In high vis terms the more the better- lots of tops and leggings have reflective bits in them. You can get bands that flip round ankles/ arms, there's lots of options.

I wear long johns when hunting or hiking in the winter in Canada. They keep you nice and toasty. Can't say whether they'd be comfortable to run in, but they keep you very warm without a huge amount of bulk.
