Ok fellow 3rd shift workers.. how do you log your calories for the day/ night. Also any weight loss tips? I usually go to bed about 8am and am up by 1pm. It's not easy to keep myself from eating continuously throughout the night..

I tend to eat dinner before going to work, and take on some snacks with me (usually a couple of fruit). I log the calories to the day I start my shift on (so, the day "before").

Sleep is indeed a problem, and I increasingly find myself needing to nap in the afternoon when having consecutive shifts.

While I find myself getting a little hungry at around the 3-4a.m. period, it is nothing I cannot manage.

I worked nights for about a decade. I would eat breakfast when I got up (1pm ish) and then eat a snack pre work. I had my dinner at work and another small meal before bed when I got home. My night shift jobs were always very busy though so I didn’t do any boredom snacking at work (warehouse management).

If you are new to 3rd shift I would not try to lose weight at all for a few weeks and just eat at maintenance. Until you fully transition you are not going to be fully rested. This makes it harder and more miserable to control hunger. You do not want to be gaining weight but losing will just be tougher than it needs to be for a short time. I would also not worry about losing if this is going to be a temporary shift assignment for you.
