I understand that macros are made up of protein, carbs and fats but how do I know how much of each I need and if the macros change depending on losing weight or putting on muscle.
I know nothing about macros so please fill me in

To add muscle, the generally accepted advice is 1 gram per pound of lean body mass (not weight). Some folks go higher than that, but I've not seen compelling evidence that it's necessary.
For weight loss or maintenance, it comes down to personal preference. Many folks find higher protein and fat keep them fuller longer. On the other hand, there's someone in General right now who feels better with higher carbs. Me, I like about equal portions of each macro. You'll have to experiment and see what works best for you.1
