New weights program = temporary gain???

I started strong lifts 5x5 a few weeks ago... In 3 weeks dropped a couple of kilos and some inches .... Super happy..... Now I'm back to where I started..... Is it just temporary swelling/ water weight?? It was a bit easy at first as I've done some weights before, but just has it got hard and heavy, all the weight came back, almost overnight! Jeans that were nice and loose are skin tight on my thighs, but still good in the waist..... Please tell me it's temporary and the 'swelling' is just that, and not fat gain!!! ( I'm at a deficit so know its not muscle)

what he said, plus did you stop doing a more cardiovascular program in favor of stronglifts? If so, you might be burning fewer calories now that your muscles are used to the new program. Just a thought.0

I haven't changed anything, just added the weights and more protein .. Kept all my other stuff... Which I noticed today isn't so good... I'm doing too much cutting down the Pump classes and some rpm... I had the worst DOMS ever last weekend (just before the weight gain)... I could barely walk and couldn't move to get my clothes on so going to slow down the other stuff a bit I think0

If it came back overnight it's water retention. Could be glycogen for muscle repair, especially if you just increased your weights. Could also be sodium or time of month. Right now I'm up 3 pounds because of a combination of all three of those things. It'll go down in a few days.0

You know that lifting weights is good for you, so you're not going to give it up, scale-weight notwithstanding, right? :drinker:0 -
Don't fret. The more you build lean muscle your metabolism will start to go up. You're starting to get to the weight where you're actually starting to ramp up muscle growth. From what I know about SL5x5 is you're really going to be taxing your muscles when the weights get hard and burning up a lot of energy.0

Either that or you're going to get bulky from picking up something heavier than a pink dumbbell. :grumble: (Totally kidding!! Happy Friday!)... And I have no idea why my pic is sideways, it was straight when I uploaded it lol!0

I started doing the 30 day squats and i was up 3 POUNDS after like 3 days!!! I was PISSED OFF cuz I had finally gotten into the 120s...well anyhow, now I am down to just 1 pound over sooooo hopefully that will go down some more..that is what people tell you. It is such a mental thing..I know inches are more important but for some reason it is hard to get past the number on the scale especially remembering way back when I was 106 (and when I say way back when I mean like 23 years ago!!! lol)0
