Message alerts from previous chats/forums

I've posted a couple of messages in some forums but I don't want to continue getting alerts from them.
I would like to receive alerts from forums where I regularly participate.
I can't work out which settings I need to use to enable this- still getting message alerts from forums where I don't post now.
Advice please

    I don't think you can change notifications from individual threads/forums, but if you click on the cogwheel at the top right of any message boards screen, and choose "preferences", you can turn off "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in." If you then turn on "Notify me when people reply to my bookmarked discussions." and bookmark (only) those discussions you want to hear from it should have the effect you are looking for.
