Set personal macros AND calories

If this is been addressed before, I wasn’t able to find it so I apologize in advance.

I would like to set my own macros AND calories in MFP. When ever I set my calories, my macros auto change and when I set my macros, my calories change.

Is there a way I can set my own calories and macros in MFP?

yes, they change because they form a % of your calories, generally 50% carbs, 30% fats, 20% proteins. Carbs and proteins have 4 calories per gram while fats 9 calories per gram. You can change that of course. Macros are very personal, and really are key to feeling full and happy. What works for you might not work for everyone. Thus if you heard that you really need to eat x grams of protein per day, and it makes you miserable then it might not be working for you.

You can set a number of grams and let it calculate the calories for you or set the calories and adjust the percentages. If going over your calorie count will bother you I suggest the latter. Also be aware that if you add exercise calories your macros will go up accordingly.

MFP has some flexibility to work with other forms of tracking but at the core it is a NEAT+Exercise based calorie counting system. When I was less active I never had trouble using it as a straight up TDEE system but I do not invest much time in macros other than hitting minimum numbers on protein and fat. I also have a minimum for fiber that is higher than MFP sets.

I don't know if this is what you mean- but I have 1,200 calories a day and they are set to 300 for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack. I have changed those.

but, when I go change my macros, my 300 X 4 shows up again. I have to manually reset it before saving
