Do you wish adult conversations still existed?

I always wonder how annoying I seem when I do that. On the other hand, I have been around a while and know how things tend to turn out. I'd rather throw out a quick reminder when I see common fodder arise than have to do warnings. I don't really like warning most of the time, and it's alot more work....1 -

@4legsRbetterthan2 Don't change a thing. You're a smooth operator.
@muszyngr Adult convos exist but we're approaching burnout at warp speed. Many are exhausted, depleted and drained. We've been in this 'Rona state of mind for so long I'm wondering what it's going to feel like to not have it around. We're the support system for our older family members and they rely on us. Jobs, businesses. How do we get back to some semblance of normalcy. Our numbers are really spiking out here and they're going up every single week.
Stress. She do take a bite.
The wind is howling like a big dog. It covers up all of my hard work just as fast as I can shovel the snow. It's Groundhog Day. Humor is good medicine and it keeps me going. The more stressed I am the sillier I want to be.
I want to laugh at something. Anything.
It feels like we're slogging through wet cement, a daily Tough Mudder competition.

So per this thread: I wish adults could have serious conversations (wherever they may occur) without flying into a rage, accusing people of being bigots/racists/whatever other dehumanizing thing you can say about a person while also being able to see viewpoints outside of their own to help inform their future opinions and actions. I just recognize that here is not that place as MFP has a ToS and forum rules we agreed upon when we signed up.
It frustrates me because we do have a really cool bunch of people who have been around here a while and whom you can have very insightful discussions with successfully. Unfortunately thats like 1% of members, and they are heavily outnumbered by the other 99% of randos who continuously filter through this place. I do love those magic moments when somehow an interesting thread only has the 1% in it and a really good convo can take place.
If I'm ever of the rebellious over-the-top character, please smack me before I say/do something really over the wall to get myself kicked out. I'm not sure what I'd do without this place. I know I've touched upon rebellion a coupla times and caused havoc to ensue. Sometimes I don't know when to STFU or when what's coming outta my mouth sounds worse than I think it does.
I love the deep conversations, the advice, the so-funny-I-could-die threads, and everything else in between. They make me think, reconsider, laugh and survive every day.2 -

there is a system, so you should know if you are at risk of getting banned.
If you aren't familiar:
we start with one 0 point warning so people realize we have rules and we enforce them
then you get 2 point warnings after that
you will get 3 points if you have several warnings already or have been warned for the same thing multiple times
points are active for 2 weeks, if you accumulate 5 points in that time you will get banned. Or 10 warnings total will get you banned.
guidelines are here if anyone hasn't seen them: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/guidelines3 -

Your posting too often warnings are hosed. They say something like “you can’t post for 150 seconds because you posted 0 times blah blah blah.” It says 0 (zero)!instead of the real number.
I’m currently in jail so I get this error occasionally and it always says 0.4 -

thanks, I agree with pro-choice, I feel just because someone has a right to do it doesn't mean everyone will run out there and abort a pregnancy, same goes for a seat belt law, I don't think we need them people should wear them absolutely but we don't need to be forced to do it, same for the helmet law
the problem with workplace issues is that people believe the Human Resources department is on their side, the reality of it, is that HR is a department of the company, same as IT, or Accounting, or Sales
HR represents the company and their best interests, I have heard first hand accounts of HR staff that said, so many times we believed the person and wanted to help them but our hands were tied, and for example the supervisor who did something wrong was just moved to manage another team to get them away from the individual who reported the incident but nothing came of it more than that, so sad0 -

I like restoring old trucks and giving them a new lease on life, and I have noticed a similar trend on the car forums, of how 10 even 5 years ago it was all about helping the fellow man (woman) and now it's this new attitude of I know what I'm doing I don't need your advice... yet they are making mistakes left and right, ha ha
and it's always so refreshing to find a comment from one of the OGs and chat them up for a bit, there is no judgement no negativity no keyboard jockeying for position, just adult conversation, is it all serious, he11 no but it's civil and rewarding
now get off my lawn!2 -
i had to make *two* doctors appointments for myself this morning and i just wish my mom was around to make em bc there’s a big psychological block there, idk why
so anyways adult conversation is overrated bc i would way rather the telling a kid what my third favorite video game character is than ever talk to a doctor or discuss politics or pay bills or whatever ever again5 -

I was expecting to see a list of gas prices in here. Maybe some commentary about the weather.1

Hmm, I suppose that means we need a better definition of what the OP means by "adult" conversation.
Is it:- Deep, meaningful conversations (not small talk)?
- Talk about adult products and things best not overheard by small children?
- Small talk about dumb *kitten* adults have to deal with every day? IE. the mundane?
- Conversations in which dialogue is established but usually devolves into petty insults and dehumanizing behavior because despite being adults, people can't act their age or haven't been taught how to respectfully and politely disagree and engage in an actual debate?
Across the board, I'd like 1 and 4 more often, but again, that never manifests for the reasons I mention in number 4. And I mean across the board, not just here on MFP. It would be nice to have a calm, serious/in-depth conversation with a person without always feeling like I have to be on the defensive or that I'm going to be dehumanized and vilified simply for having a different opinion.1 -

I filled up at a station at $1.09, not noticing until later that across the street it was at $0.99.
That’s how they get you!

Also, this cooler weather is a doosey on my arthritis.4 -
just make private groups to talk about nearly anything you want?5
-
Hey folks,
You may have noticed you're missing the last two pages of this thread. MFP is not the place to discuss divisive topics, including politics. These types of threads tend to devolve into insanity and dumpster fires fairly quickly, and hey - this is a fitness site, right? Anyway, if you really really really want to discuss politics with some of the fine folks here on MFP:just make private groups to talk about nearly anything you want?
Feel free to create a group, and then invite the folks you'd like to discuss politics with to the group. Easy peasy.
Happy hump day!
Em

Are you joking? Gas is $1.09? We're paying anywhere from 2.04-2.19. But that's okay; I don't go far.1 -

I have plenty of adult conversations. The problem is that they are very narrow: "Who will you vote for? Why did you break up? Hows work.....blah blah blah..."2
