Pregnant Mamas or Breastfeeding Mamas

So I just found out I’m pregnant with my second! Due sometime early July 2021 🥰

I was kind of curious about calorie consumption though because I was in the process of losing some weight haha - obviously that’s over for at least 9 months 😂

I was eating around 2150 cals and losing about a lb a week. So would I up it to about 2400 then?
I’m also breastfeeding my 8 month old and so I want to make sure I’m eating enough to keep producing milk for him 😬

If your milk is fine on 2100 it will be the same or better on 2400. The first trimester you dont need more calories as your tiredness usually cancels out the increase in calorie requirements.

Rule of thumb for starting bmi individuals of 18.5-24.9 is 0 cals extra on top of regular maintenance calories for the first trimester, 350 extra in the 2nd trimester and 450 extra in the third trimester. With a gain goal of 25-35 lb.

If you were above 24.9 bmi the gain goal would be 15-25 lb so you could try 0, 250, 350 respectively and see how it goes, but you should ask your doctor first.

In some rare cases, and Only if doctor approved, it might be safe to continue losig weight or maintaining weight, but dont try this on your own. Im notnsure where you are starting from.

If you start breastfeeding less, you may wish to decrease calories to account for that. Depending how much your little one nurses, that is probably buring 200-300 a day assuming theyre eating solids too.

I also nursed my first while i was pregnant and he gave up around my 5 month mark because my milk flow changed too much due to hormones. The taste or quantity can also change. So just be prepared it will depend on the child if they are good with all that going into it! A friend of mine really wanted to combo feed her kids but her milk dried up 3weeks before baby 2 was born. So it works for some but isnt guaranteed.
