My parents are doing this diet currently. It's going really well so far. Despite being only 800 cals the meals are really filling and tasty.

Intermittent fasting is a method that works for some, not others. The diet plan is inherently flawed ... one could argue deliberately so. The short term, extremely restrictive intake diets are unsustainable and much of the weight lost is directly attributable to water loss from depletion of glycogen stores. The only time a VLCD should be used is when prescribed and monitored by health care professionals which is why advocating for them is a violation of the rules here ... they're risky with potential severe outcomes.

If these arbitrary caloric amount diets worked there wouldn't be a continual remarketing of them under new names.

Since this is only an 800 calorie diet, it should be done under the supervision of a dr, not just randomly done by people trying to drop it like it’s hot. It isn’t a race and the idea is sustainability. You can’t sustain 800 calories a day for life.
