Finding out calories burned by heart rate?

My HRM broke and I sadly can't afford another one at this time. So I am trying to find the best way to figure out how many calories I am burning. The machines at the gym have always been way low for me. My HRM almost always has me burning 2 times the amount of the machines, and pretty much the same for what the calories burned are on this site. I know that is the opposite of what most people have found, but honestly I am in really bad shape! Anyway I paid attention to my heart rate at the gym today and entered all of the info into a site to find out how many calories you burn based on your heart rate. Is this accurate at all? It seems to be almost the exact same as when I enter it into the saved HRM slot on here from when I had my HRM. Just want to make sure that is a good way to do it until I can get a new HRM. Thanks!

Both the machine and the HRM are ESTIMATING cals, and there's no way to ensure one is more correct than the other.
With that said...
When you were using your HRM, did you pay attention to your average burns? For example, I know when I mountain bike, I typically burn about 12 cals per minute, so it's very easy for me to estimate when I don't have my HRM with me.
I'd look back on your past workouts, figure out your typical burns doing various activities and use that as the basis for your estimates.0
