@zmw2877, I'm going to try to not be as much of a wet blanket as the previous poster but be advised that losing at that aggressive of a rate, especially when so close what I imagine is a healthy weight for you, is unlikely and/or unsafe to pursue. IMO you'd be best served picking a more sustainable and achievable loss rate of 1 lb/week or less and focus on making lasting changes to your lifestyle such that any weight you lose you're able to lose permanently. Best of luck!

This app will only help you lose 2 pounds per week. Jan 1, 2021 is 6 weeks away. To lose more than that, you have to abuse the app and that is not recommend. Now if you're talking Dec 31, 2021... there's plenty of time to reach your goal.

Better yet, why dont you say "This app will help me lose 20 pounds, that's my goal"? If you take the pressure of a deadline out of the equation, you're more likely to reach that goal.

To lose 20 pounds in 44 days you would need to create a deficit of 1590 calories per day. In other words you would have to stop eating entirely and still exercise. It would result in you either eating everything in sight after about 4 to 5 days or be so incredibly fatigued that you can barely function. Not to mention you would be burning more muscle than fat. Also, the stress you would place on your body would increase your cortisol which would make you retain water and you may not even see the scale move after the first week.

With only 20 lbs to lose, you'll have much better results aiming to lose 0.5 to 1 lb per week, coupled with resistance training and adequate protein to preserve muscle. As mentioned above, a drastic cut is going to take a toll on your body, and you might not like the way you look at your goal weight if you don't take muscle-saving steps. You'll be more successful if you set reasonable goals for yourself and have some patience.

I want to be 5 again in 2021 and just do everything differently. 😜

That said, if you just want to lose 20 lbs by some point in 2021, great!

If the goal is 1/1/21, not going to happen as others have pointed out already.
